Archangel Michael of Mantamado in 2009 Pilgrimage
Dear TLIG friends,
Some time ago, Vassula asked a TLIG friend to gather some information about Archangel Michael of Mantamado, the patron saint of the beautiful island of Lesvos (Mytilini). Following is the information that our friend gave us, about the History of the Monastery, the miraculous ‘bas-relief’ icon of the Archangel Michael and as well references on a couple of miracles out of the many that have been written in books.
We are happy to share this information with you and your friends as it will be one of the places that we will visit during the 2009 Pilgrimage in Greece. While being at Mytilini, we will also visit the famous Monastery of St. Rafael, Nicolas and Irene. St. Raphael, Nicholas and Irene suffered martyrdom by the Turks on the island of Lesvos, Greece on Bright Tuesday (April 9, 1463), after the fall of Constantinople. St Raphael was the Abbot of Karyes near the village of Thermi on the island. St Nicholas was a deacon at the monastery, and St Irene was the 12-year-old daughter of the mayor of Thermi. St. Raphael, St. Nicholas and St. Irene have performed and still perform many miracles to this day.
We would also like to take the opportunity to thank all the pilgrims who made an extra effort and registered right away for the 2009 Pilgrimage in order to assist us with the deadline which is 30th of November, since we have to take a decision regarding the size of the boat. Furthermore, we kindly ask those who have not registered yet, to take some time now and register, because to participate at the Pilgrimage is an important part of our TLIG mission. The size of the boat may decide some important members of the clergy to participate... And among the VIP guests who are invited and have not decided, there can be some that the Lord would be pleased to see there, to talk for Unity. Let us pray for that.
Thanking you for your support.
Please send all queries and registration information to the pilgrimage email address, email@example.com
Yours in Christ,
2009 Pilgrimage Team
